How this site is made.
A single Python script with no dependencies generates every page, served as static files. Type is Newsreader, Geist Mono, and the system font of whatever device you are holding.
The sky
Every color on every page is computed from the position of the sun over Washington, DC — or over you, if you asked — using the NOAA solar position algorithm, in your browser, from nothing but the time and two coordinates. There is no light or dark mode. Sunrise and sunset are the same minute the almanac gives.

The data
Nothing on the homepage is illustrated. Radar is a real KLWX (Sterling, Virginia) volume scan from NOAA’s NEXRAD archive — 30 June 2012, 02:56 UTC, the derecho over the District — rendered tilt by tilt. Pressure is the ASOS record from Reagan National through Hurricane Sandy, 27–30 October 2012. Venue outlines are from OpenStreetMap. The Live Activity’s storm track is a demonstration, and says so in its source.
The weight
No trackers, no cookies, no third-party requests, and no fonts loaded from anyone else’s servers. The line in the footer is measured live by your browser, not written by us.
